CCMPS
Welcome to CCMPs Research Newsletter for the Centre for Cultural and Media Policy Studies at the University of Warwick.
We are a group of individuals with different cultural and scholarly backgrounds, united by our interest in media, creativities and cultural policy and a soft spot for the Student Union pub. We come from different discipines and are keen to listen from people whose knowledge and perspective is different to ours. Our tower is not ivory but full of open doors and windows becuause we like to go out in the world, and we want the world in. When it comes to our research, we engage with amd contribute to theoretical frameworks, ethnographic accounts, policy papers, industry practices, creative productions. If this looks like your cup of tea, feel free to get in touch. If it doesn’t feel free too.

SEMINARS
"The best moments are born this waY"
The Media and Creative Industries Research Seminar Series brings together scholars and students to discuss new avenues for critical enquiries.
Whilst the term research nowadays often evokes the imperative to catch big grants, we say research is first and foremost people in a room, sharing their knowledge, insights and passion with each other.

This series of events is designed to bring together scholars, industry leaders, students and practitioners to discuss contemporary challenges and opportunities in the field.
Too often academia and industries are conceived of as irremediably distant, as distand as theory and practice, intellect and creativity. We don’t believe that. Warwick’s Centre for Cultural and Media Policy Studies has always been a hub for collaboration and partnership with media and creative professionals at a regional, international and global level.

CAROLINA BANDINELLi.
THINKER,WRITER
and RESEARCHER
"
Carolina Bandinelli is Associate Professor in Media and Creative Industries. She is Director of the MA in Global Media and Communication and Director of Research at CMPS. She is co-director of Warwick's Centre for Digital Inquiry.Carolina is researching digital cultures of love, and work patterns in postfeminist creative industries. Following the lesson of feminist epistemologies, she experiments with methods and ways of writing that reflect the embodied and affective nature of research. She dreams of new ways of doing theoretical work which involve the body and soul alongside intellect: she'd like to organise dancing conferences, and theory festivals. Maybe even a Media and Creative Industries rave night. Rigour is not stiffness, critical thinking does not need to be boring. She has written a novel in Italian and hope it will be translated in English at some point. She has a cat named Cucci. Cucci says hello.

CHRIS
BILTON.
Chris Bilton is Professor of Creative Industries and director of the BA in Media and Creative Industries. Chris writes books about creativity and management in the creative industries. Currently working on a book about myths of creativity on the big screen with Jo Garde-Hansen. Other research interests include creativity and AI and precarious work in the cultural sector. He is a fan of teaching-led research and Arthur Koestler's theory of bisociation - we make our most creative connections on the mind's marshy shore, between sleeping and waking, between sobriety and intoxication.
